Driver's Resolution for '11: Be a Role Model

(TOLEDO, Ohio - December 30, 2010) - Hal Martin has already announced his plans to enter at least six races for Venturini Motorsports over the course of the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season, but he's aiming to be more well-rounded - beginning January 1.

ARCARacing.com caught up with numerous drivers and series personalities before the holiday season to find out what New Year's resolutions are planned, and Martin provided a response that stretches far beyond the race track.

"I want to do some public speaking and volunteer work at various schools as a role model to young students to encourage them to lead healthy and productive lives and use what they are given to their fullest abilities," Martin said. "I just hope to impact kids' lives in a positive manner and show them that no matter how tough things may get, always strive to be the best version of yourself that you can be. It's something I've tried to live by my whole life and hope to continue."

Martin isn't the only ARCA personality making plans for the New Year. Dr. Harlan and JoAnn Hunter, the chief photographer and fan gear salesperson for the ARCA Racing Series, respectively, know that drivers aren't the only people required to be in good health for a long race campaign.

"It's time to think about losing some weight so we'll be in top shape for ARCA's 2011 season!"

Jim Dake, an official in the series, vowed to fellow officials that he, too, would take on a more nutritious eating regimen in 2011 - albeit in an unorthodox way.

"My New Year's resolution is to eat more fruit," Dake said. "You know what that means. That's right! More pineapple on my pizzas!"

Patrick Sheltra, the 2010 series champion, has long said that he plans to race in NASCAR in 2011, so it's no wonder he's had little time to come up with an overarching resolution for the new year.

"I can't think of anything right at the moment, but check back with me in a week and I'll drum up something," Sheltra said with a chuckle.
